A Little Nail Art for a Break from Comparisons

Are you tired of comparison posts for the BLOG SALE yet?  I know I am and there is more coming, so I took a break and did some nail art!

This is my favorite time of year.  I love October and November better than any other months of the year.  The air turns crisp and so do the leaves.  Pumpkins show up on doorsteps and in pies.  Pumpkin spice all the stuff!  Latte, creamer, cream cheese and candles.  Whatever it is, I want it.  No, I need it!  I have been on the lookout for Ben & Jerry's pumpkin ice cream, but haven't found it yet and I am on my own personal crusade for pumpkin spice oreos.  Just imagine ginger cookies (instead of chocolate) with pumpkin Double Stuff.  My mouth is watering!

Of course this means pumpkins on my nails too!  I recently (like early summer) purchased some Chocolate Vanity plates through a AIS group buy and one was almost strictly for this image.  I love Mickey in the pumpkin!

Pic from Chocolate Vanity Source

Isn't it cute!  I am sure the Pooh and Valentine images will get use also, but that pumpkin!  Love it hard!

I used the stamping decal method to reverse color the image then applied to the nail over Two coats of China Glaze Lug Your Designer Baggage.

If you are a brown polish lover, like me, this is a must have IMHO.  Rich chocolate brown filled to the brim with warm flakie goodness?  Yes please!  It applies so smoothly and makes me want to lick my fingers.  Sorry if I just grossed anyone out!

I added a funky french tip with Messy Mansion MM19, again using the decal method.  Wish I would have placed them closer to the tips, but the first one was high, so they all had to be high, right?

Despite the flaws I can so clearly see, I LOVE this!  The perfect non-scarey Halloween manicure!

What do you think?  Do you like brown polish, or are you like my sister and think it looks like something that should come out of a diaper?  Is this your favorite time of year too?  If not, what is?  Are you happy to see some nail art?

As always, thanks for looking and commenting!  You guys are what makes blogging worthwhile!  And don't forget to check out my BLOG SALE.  NEW POLISH was added just yesterday and there are a bunch of discontinued indies just waiting for new homes!

Cult Classic Nail Art

I wasn't expecting to participate much in the Llama Nails Inspired by books/movies challenge.  Didn't think I could come up with much.  However, I am really enjoying the challenge it is providing.  Today's prompt is "cult".  Can you guess which movie inspired this?

I suppose the thumb gives it away?  It is inspired by Donnie Darko.

Source

Donnie Darko is a cult classic!  Some consider it a horror flick, but I don't consider it so.  Time travel and a talking bunny?  More sci-fi in my book.  Let's work through it, shall we?

My index represents the "chest circles".  Not enough space here to explain it...Finger Paints Black Expressionism and Cult Nails Tempest.

Middle represents the chandelier that hangs in the Darko's stairwell.  I tried to find an image...no luck.  Finger Paints Black Expressionism, Bundle Monster BM-008 and Konad Special White.

Ring is the time until the world ends.  Dandy Nails Bound to Fall and Black Expressionism.

Source

Yep, the world is going to end.  At least Donnie's.  Oops, spoilers!

Pinkie is Donnie's Halloween costume.  Black Expressionism, Bundle Monster BM-413 and Konad Special White.

And the thumb is Frank the bunny, Donnie's imaginary friend.  I would tell you more about him, but I don't want to ruin it for you and if you have seen it, no explanation needed!  Dandy Nails Bound to Fall, Black Expressionsim, NOPI Yoga Then Yogurt and China Glaze Stone Cold.

So many things to love about this movie...and this mani.  Don't forget to check out the other cult inspired nail art!  Thanks for looking and commenting!

AIS - Guilty Pleasure

It is late and I really should be slinking off to bed, but I really want to post my mani for today's (almost yesterday's)  Stamping Sunday challenge at Adventures in Stamping.  The prompt is Guilty Pleasure.  I have a lot of guilty pleasures...butter loaded popcorn and nail polish (of course), to name a few.  But the nail art has to be stamped, so I decided to go with my love of....ZOMBIES!  I don't know why I am obsessed with zombie movies/shows, but I am.  The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil, Sean of the Dead, Planet Terror, Zombieland, Army of Darkness, La Horde, I Am Legend, Night of the Comet, 28 Weeks Later, Helix (sort of a zombie tv show only they are easier to kill)...I love them all.  I like the more cerebral ones, obviously, but as long it isn't a total gorefest, I will like it.  I have yet to see World War Z, but hope to soon.  Here is my zombie mani.

Do you see my little joke?  Yep, it is a valentine zombie mani (tee hee).

I started with two coats of SinfulShine Who's the Gloss.  This grey is filled with purple and pink shimmer, giving it a dusty purple look.  So purdy!

Next I stamped with FingerPaints Black Expressionism and Sugar Bubbles 001 (zombies and tombstones) and MJ XIX (till death do us part).  I used the stamping decal method to get the mirror image so the two zombies are reaching out for each other.

This one just makes me smile :)  What is your guilty pleasure?  Thanks for looking!

So Much to Come!

There is a lot coming down the pike for this little space on the blogosphere.  This month marks one whole year of blogging for me.  I can't believe that a small Konad purchase (which my husband encouraged and I remind him of it often) blossomed into such an amazing "hobby" (think obsession) for me.

In the coming weeks, expect to see a challenge hosted by me for one of my Facebook groups, Nail Art Challengez.  My first hosted challenge and probably not my last!  Also the Crumpet Nail Tarts 33DC is still continuing and I will be having a GIVEAWAY.  I have been collecting polishes and getting sponsors for months, so it will be somewhat substantial with indies, mainstream brands and even some chances to choose your own polishes.

In addition, I am thinking of running a nail art contest on my new Facebook page, but I want to make sure there is interest.  This would not be a "popularity" contest, but judged by myself, family and friends....with maybe a vote winner too.  If you think this would be something that you would be interested in (participating or voting) let me know in the comments.

And Finally, I hope to do some remodeling around here, if I can ever nail my computer guru down long enough to let him know what I want.  Maybe I can bribe him with a steak dinner :)

Whew!  Do you think I have enough on my to-do list?  That is why my final mani for the Nail Challenge Collaborative October challenge is a bit late.  I had sooo many ideas for Halloween manis, which is why I was involved in several challenges, but I didn't get to most of them.  I think I have one more to show you after this one, so the haunting season is not quite over for me (or you) yet (tee hee).

This was Bria's Halloween nail art.  She has a skull ring that she wore all October (see the pic below) and wanted a mani to match it.  I didn't really want skulls on all her nails, so we gave her some hellfire flames with skull accents.

I started with two coats of Dandy Nails Bound to Fail.  I let Bria choose her color for the base and was so glad she chose this.  Bound to Fail is one of my all time favorite greys.  If you want to see it swatched, check the post HERE.  Such a complex and interesting polish, it is not at all boring, like some greys can be.

Next I stamped with Apipila AIS A and Sally Hansen White On, which gave a sorta ghostly skull.  Then I stamped the tips with Sugar Bubbles SB 007, Revlon Pop Star, a blue magnetic polish, and Revlon Captivate, a gorgeous copper polish, perfect for stamping!

Finally I dotted the eyes with a little red polish that I forgot to write down.  A final pic with the ring that inspired it all.

If you are still in the mood for spooky nails, check the manis below!

Still a Bit in the Halloween Mood

So I know that Halloween is over, but I still have a few in the folder so you may see some more from me.  This is for the Crumpet's 33DC 2 patterns.  This also qualifies for the Adventures in Stampings plates that end with a 1.

This started with two coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff on thumb and ring.  All the others were two coats of Julep Chloe, a nice frosty brown with slight red undertone.  Watch for swatches of this one one coming soon.

Then I stamped on Chloe with BM-323 and Revlon Copper Penny.

Then I stamped with my new favorite brown stamping polish, Manicurity Foxy and my new favorite Halloween image from Sugar Bubbles SB 001 .  Look how solid this is!  If you remember a while back I swatched a bunch of Manicurity plish and found out that one of my bottles was mislabeled?  It was in fact Foxy.  If you want to see full swatches of Foxy, because not only does she stamp well, but is beautiful on her own, check the post HERE.  She is the one marked Raucous.

I purchased some Sugar Bubbles earlier this summer.  I love them, they stamp awesome, but they are a b***h to clean.  The edges of the images are sharp, good for stamping, but shreds everything I use to clean.  Hopefully I will find something that works without shedding fibers all over soon, because I love the images on every plate I purchased.  If you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments.

Don't you just love that pile of skulls?  Yep, me too!  Check out all the other double patterns.

A Moon Mani for Light of the Moon Nails

This is the 3rd mani for The Nail Challenge Collaborative's Halloween theme.  I already have two other Halloween manis to show you, but they are going to be a little late.  I absolutely loved how this turned out, so it is going to be pic heavy.

This is my light of the moon mani!  If you have checked out my new Facebook Page you have already seen this.  But for those that haven't and those who want to see how it was done, this is for you.

Artificial Light
With Flash and Out of Focus :)

This started with three coats of my favorite Halloween/fall polish, Crows Toes A Christmas Crow.  Yes, it is from her 2012 Christmas collection.  Yes it is my favorite fall polish.  Yes, I wear it year round, spring, summer, fall and winter!  It is just that kind of polish!  Two coats would have been appropriate, but you know me, I love me some depth when it comes to glitter, even though I planned on covering most of it up.

I LOVE this polish....just like EVERY SINGLE Crows Toes polish I have in my stash!.  My feelings for this polish know no bounds.  When I apply this, it sounds like a crowd watching fireworks in my head....wait....the fireworks aren't in my head....the sounds are (tee hee).  It is a dark brown jellie (yum) filled to the brim with color shifting (oooooh) gold/orange/red/green micro glitters (ahhhh).  It looks like the sparks thrown off by a campfire or the night sky on a foreign planet.....which bring me to what inspired this mani.

Source

This little blog is called "Light of the Moon Nails" for two reasons.  One, I almost always do my nails at night, sometimes in the wee hours of the morning, and two, I have always been fascinated  by the moon, it's always changing, ever the same and oft surprising visage.  Waxing (and waning)  a bit poetical there.  Please forgive me.  What better way to show my adoration for the moon than to give it a place on my tips.

After the fire of A Christmas Crow came the moon made with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening, my go to yellow.

Next I attempted to do my first water spotting technique with Sinful Colors Cloud 9, a sheer shimmery orange.  It was a good idea and would have been great if I had done it successfully.  As it was, you can see some of the spotting on my ring and middle finger.  I then sponged on Julep Nan with a moistened/torn kitchen sponge.   Please forgive the lack of clean up, I am too lazy to take care of stray polish after every step, even if I am taking pictures.

After that, the hard....or more like messy....part was done and all I had to do was add some trees with my black striper, including an extra tall one on my middle finger.  Yes, that is supposed to be a tree, not a cross.  Now for some photo spam!

Well, what do you think?  I love it!  Of course I see all the little imperfections.  I wish water spotting would have turned out better.  I think the trees are horrendous, but I don't care.  This mani makes me feel all mushy inside, it is such a perfect representation of me and my blog.  I may have to do a moon themed mani for every season now!

Thanks for looking, reading and commenting!  Don't forget to check out the other Halloween manis.

Brains in the Attic

Good morning all!  This is going to be a rare a.m. post!  I have been overdoing it recently with three challenges going on, preparing to host a challenge next month, along with getting ready for my 1 year blogiversary giveaway.  All this means late nights, or in most cases staying up to the wee hours of the morning.  It all caught up with me yesterday and, although I had a couple of things to post, I went to bed at 6:30 and slept straight through till 4:00 this morning!  Early mornings are a rare thing for me and I would love to enjoy it by posting a long rambling post, but Bria gets up early and will be greatly upset if she can't go on Twitter before going to the bus, so I have to make this fast (tee hee).

This is the second mani for The Nail Challenge Collaborative's Halloween challenge.  Brains in the attic!

It all started with two coats of The Lady Varnishes Bog of Eternal Stench.  This has to be one of my all time favorite Halloween polishes!  It is a "boggy" green jelly filled with brown green and copper micro glitters, green and copper hexes.  Pause for morning routine.....

.....I'm back.  Bria's OCD just won't let me get away with not letting her do her morning Twitter routine.  Really, it is just easier to let her use the computer for 40 mins than to throw her whole day off.  Oh, let me ramble a bit, I am not a morning person!  Even when I have had a full nights sleep and waken refreshed, just leave me alone!  I think that is part of the reason that I wait until everyone is gone for the day to get out of bed.  With Bria and hubby both trying to talk to me while I was trying to go through my blog reading on my phone....it just made me want to snuggle back in bed to read, but I resisted and put on my happy mommy/wife face until everyone was gone.  Even the dogs were trying to get my attention (as always).  Devin (my 16 yr old son) is the only one who understands me....or maybe is like me.  I'm lucky to get a few grunts from him in the mornings....and he waits till the last possible moment to get out of bed too.  Anyway, back to the nails!

I have a "thing" for odd greens, so I absolutely LOVE Bog of Eternal Stench!  Plus it is inspired by a favorite movie, The Labyrinth....David Bowie in package hugging leggings, whoo hoo!  By the way, the stamped pics are after 3 days of wear!  Hardly any tip wear even!  I started out by stamping gold spiderwebs from BM13, my favorite web design of all the ones I currently own.  The idea was to have black webs with a gold shadow, so I went with a subtle gold....but now I can't remember what it was :(  I have to get better at taking notes on my manis.  What the hell is with that longer middle nail!  I swear that thing grows faster than all the others!  Okay Tina, get back on subject!

After stamping with the black webs, I realized that the gold just wasn't going to work and the black did not show up enough, so I went back and stamped with Konad white.

Next I used the stamping decal method with Apipila AIS plate, OPI My Vampire is Buff (scull) and a forgotten pink polish (brains).

I guess I must have liked this, because I took a ton of pics :)  These are just a few.  I can't believe I got a post done before getting ready for work!  Even with a morning routine break!

What do you think of my Zombie snack in the attic?  Have you tried the stamping decal method?  Let me know!  Thanks for looking, commenting and generally putting up with my morning blabber :)
