Bria is Wearing Fashion Friday

Woo hoo!  I am so excited about today's post!  Why?  I am back to Fashion Fridays, and I love it!  If you don't know what Fashion Fridays is, let me tell you.  I love being inspired by things around me, and one of my favorites is fashion.  On Fridays I take something from the fashion world and use it to inspire a mani.  I don't know why love this so much, but I do.  Bria loves it too.  She likes looking through my fashion inspiration file and picking something for me to do on yer tips.  Today she chose this beaded Mikado dress by Carolina Herrera.

Decision making is not an easy task for Bria.  She is easily overwhelmed if you give her too many choices, so we have this process.  She looks through the file and pins 10 choices to her own file.  All she has to do is look and say, "Yep, I like this one" or "Nope, not happening".  Once she has her picks, we go through them one by one.  Do you like this one better or this one.  The one she likes we keep and delete the other.  We go on this way until we are down to THE ONE.  We have this down to a science.  If I showed her the 10 picks and said, "Which one do you want?" she would be frozen with indecision.  Give her two choices and she usually picks immediately.  It actually is much faster and less stress inducing (for her).  The other option is just choosing for her (which I do on occasion), but I like for her to be involved in picking what she is going to have to look at on her tips for the next 5-7 days (she gets a mani every week....unless she loves it so much that she does not want to take it off).  We do the same thing with colors.  For this, I picked 4 blues and let her pick which one she wanted.  Then I gave her four flower stamps to choose from.  Then she got to choose if she wanted the design on every nail or if she wanted a....I guess I would call it a landscape mani?  It may sound like a lot of work, and sometimes it is, but we pick the look and the colors, paint the base and then do all the other decisions between layers drying.  Okay, it is a lot of work, but it brings her so much joy to show off her nails to her friends and gives me joy to do it for her.

My whole point of telling you this is to relate this cute story.  As we were going through the pics, she kept calling this dress the "princess dress".  After we had gone through them all and were left with "the princess dress", we had this little conversation.

Me - "Why is it a princess dress?"
Bria - "It just is."
Me - "Aren't princess dresses long with big skirts and lots of sparkle?"
Bria - "Yes."
Me - "This doesn't have any of that stuff.  What makes it a princess dress?"
Bria - "The fluffy dress is what she wears to the ball.  This is what she wears around the castle."

Tee hee!  I love my girl!  Let's see what we came up with.

We started with LVX Fantom on middle ring and thumb.  Pinkie and index is two coats of SOPI Opening Night.  This is actually the first polish I purchased just for her.  It was to match her elementary school graduation dress, so it is a bit old!

We broke our moYou London cherry for this look!  I purchased 4 plates with some Christmas money.  I keep looking at them with ideas, but for some silly reason, I hesitated about using them.  Now that I finally have taken the plunge, expect to see more!  This is moYou London Mother Nature 05.  I stamped with Revlon Star Attraction Pop Star.  To use this image, I applied the polish to the top left or right of the flowers, swiped down diagonally to avoid getting too much of the vase on the image, then wiped the portions I didn't want off my stamper with my thumb....quickly.  I think it ended up pretty successful considering it was the first time I used one of these full image plates.

After the stamping, Bria indicated that we needed the belt with the flower.  Since the two middle fingers represented the the center of the dress, she wanted to have half flowers on each finger.  I tried stamping it, but wasn't successful, so she dug through my studs/glitters/sequins and found these little flowers she thought we could cut in half.  Those flowers are tiny and were a pain in the butt to cut.  What's a mom to do?  Yep, smaller scissors and a couple of attempts :)  You can't even see them unless you know they are there.  Bria knows they are there, that is what is important.

  
On the thumb we went for the full dress look.  In the DMP you can see that we could have done with another coat of Opening Night, but you couldn't tell at all IRL.

One more funny story.  We started these late on a week night, so it was a bit past Bria's bedtime when we were done.  I had messed up on her thumb (tried stamping the flower without getting it where I wanted it) and told Bria we would leave it as is and I would fix it the next day.  The next day she came into my mani cave like this.  She was wearing gloves because she was going to take the polish off her thumb so we could redo it and didn't want to mess up any of her other nails  Tee hee, she makes me smile!

So, what do you think?  Were we successful?  I don't feel like it is a "perfect" representation, and I would have done some things different, but this wasn't about me and my vision, it was about Bria and hers.  Do you get the idea that I love her?
