More Double Stamping Nail Art

It's Monday and that means The Crumpet Nail Tarts Pick-n-Mix.  Today's theme is flowers/pale blue.  I wasn't feeling the flowers.  I just did flowers last week!  If you missed it, you can find it HERE.

I started with three coats of LynBDesigns Don't Torture Me, one of my all time favorite light blues.  If you want to see it on it's own, you can see it HERE.  Then I stamped with Apipila P.2.  I used the image on the right and Cupcake Polish Neither Here Noir There, a lovely dusty blue holo.  Then I stamped over that with the left image and Jupep Millie.  Two double stamps in one week?  Look at me go!

I love that I can get a splatter effect without all the mess!  Thanks for looking and don't forget to check out all the other Tart's nail art.

#31DC2014 Yellow Mystery

I have a bit of a theme going here...two-fers.  Today my prompts are "yellow" for #31DC2014 and "mystery" for Llama Nails.  I didn't go for any specific mystery book/movie, just mystery in general.

It might look complicated, but it was actually pretty easy.

I started with two coats of Barielle My City Apartment.  I stamped the middle two with DRK-C and other three with GALS GA47.

I splattered the middle two with Sally Hansen Rapid Red, then stamped with Bundle Monster BM-421 and Sally Hansen Lightening (the yellow for #31DC2014).

Then I used Konad red to stamp the rest, MoYou 72 and BM-414

I know I have seen similar (and better) nail art out there, but I still had fun doing it.  Let me know what you think!  Thanks for looking and commenting!

Day 15 Crumpet 31 DC - Watercolor

The theme for day 15 of Crumpet Tarts 31 Day Challenge is watercolor.  When I first read through the list, I thought it said water marble, which is a whole different animal.  I had never done this technique before, so I had to do some research.  A search for "water color nail art" on YouTube turned up at least 4 different ways to do this technique.  By the time I watched 5 videos, I decided I was going to combine a couple of different techniques.  I knew exactly what I wanted to recreate.  My inspiration came from this image.

This is what I came up with.

What do you think?  I think I nailed it (tee hee).  I was going to take it off right away to try and get another day done, but I liked it so much, I recreated it on my right hand so I can wear it for work tomorrow!

I took a few pics of the process and thought I would share.  I started with one coat of Ulta Snow White.  I just wanted to start with a "clean" palette.  Then I mixed some acetone with China Glaze Kalahari Kiss in a little art palette and applied all over the nail with a medium art paintbrush.  This is what it looked like.

Then I randomly painted on acetone thinned polishes in the following colors.
  • Zoya Gemma
  • Revlon Muse
  • China Glaze Recycle
  • China Glaze Fast Track
  • Ulta Snow White
  • More China Glaze Kalahari Kiss

Finally I splattered the whole thing with thinned Ulta Snow White and a stiff stippling brush.

What a mess!  After some clean up (let's be honest, a lot of clean up:) and top coat, I stamped with Avon Forbidden Fudge and Bundle Monster BM-314.  Just a couple more pics

I have to say I loved this mani.  It probably isn't the best color palette for my skin, but I don't care!  As always, I learned some things with this technique.  If I were to do it again, I would add a topcoat over the base coat because the polish mixed with acetone caused some bald spots in the base coat that took some work to cover with the thinned polish.  Totally worth it though!

So now go check out all the other works of watercolor art.

Day 11 Crumpets 31 DC - Splatter

I am so much happier with this days mani than yesterday, although it was almost as complicated.  Once again, I used my lovely daughter as a nail model.  I was inspired by Gwenn at Sweet Sugar HERE.  Her mani was done using a refillable sample perfume bottle and some polish thinner.  I don't have any polish thinner, but I figured I would give it a go anyways.  It worked with the lighter cream polish as long as I only had a few drops in the bottle, so I had to keep opening it up and adding more polish.  Then I tried with the dark, which had small glitter in it, and it totally clogged it up, so I tried the straw method, but I only had a large (think huge) plastic straw that fits in a thermos, so it just wasn't working.  Finally I took an old toothbrush and used it to splatter/sponge the polish on.  Despite all the time and fussiness, I really liked how it turned out.

Here's the colors I used.
  • Two coats of A England Guineveve (my hubby was sitting at my polish desk with so many pretty colors around him and this is the only one he picked up and said "I really like this", so that's the one I chose for this mani)
  • Revlon Provence (light purple)
  • Pomegranate Enchanted Lagoon (dark purple).  This is one of those polishes that I don't think the name matches the color.  This is a new brand for me and I can't wait to swatch it for you!  This purple is my new favorite purple and I will get it up for you ASAP.

When we were done, Bria kept looking at her fingers.  Finally she said, "Can I eat my fingers, Mom?  They look like jelly beans."  Isn't she funny and obviously she liked them.  What do you think?  Check out all the other splatters.
