Buffalo Bill Nail Art

Life is getting in the way of nails around here :(  I had my water marble (you can see it HERE) for several days and finally forced myself to change it.  As I sat at my desk with a list of the prompts I had not completed yet for the #31DC2014, I spied a nail decal left over from THIS nail art.  It was done months ago but must have been hiding out under a polish bottle or something :)  As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to do the book and movie prompt together, plus the skittles prompt for Blogger Braggers.

Yup, Silence of the Lambs was a book before it was a movie.  I have seen manis inspired by this movie before, but I wanted to concentrate on Buffalo Bill instead of Hannibal Lecter.

I started with two coats of LynBDesigns Battle Dress, a shimmery nude polish.  This is an older swatch pic, which is why my nails are shorter.  I need to go back to this length :).

The well is on my index finger, which of course had to include the bloody scratches and finger nail.  I sponged with Julep Daria (a dark grey) and Nails Inc Old Compton Street (a light grey texture) then stamped with LLC-B.  Scratches are Orly Naughty.

The middle finger is a decal using MoYou 67.  I double stamped the ring finger with Messy Mansion MM36, Mentality Prim and Mentality Foxy.  "It puts the lotion in the basket or it gets the hose again".

The pinkie was splattered with Orly Naughty, what I think is the perfect blood polish.  I did not clean up the cuticles on purpose for a more gory effect.

Finally I free handed Buffalo Bills hand tattoo on my thumb.  Did you know that the three tattoos he has are tattoos from three notorious serial killers, at least that is what I read somewhere during my research and you know everything on the internet is real :)

That's it kiddies.  I have the mood stone, not particularly because I love the nail art, but because I love my interpretation of the movie onto my nails.  Kinda like my Donnie Darko manicure you can find HERE

As always, thanks for looking and commenting!

Is This Nail Art a Crime?

Quick post to show you my nail art for Llama Nails.  I spent nine hours walking around the State Fair today.  Not only do my legs and feet ache, my arthritis in my knees means I can barely bend them.  Not that it wasn't worth it though.  Love the fair!  Fine arts building is my favorite.  I could spend hours in there.  The pain, however, means I don't have the attention span for a long post.

The prompt for today is "crime".  Remember, this is a book/movie challenge.  Can you guess?

This is for the Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson.  The series includes The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest.  See what I did there?

This image might explain my pinkie and thumb :)

That's it.  I would expound more, but bed and an icepack is calling me.  Thanks for looking and commenting!

Twin Blog Candy - Liquorice

June is almost over!  It just flew by!  So today it is time for a Twin Blog post.  The theme this month is candy.  My twinsie is Erika from The Polished Fangirl and the candy chosen for us at random is liquorice.  Liquorice?  Really.  Luckily Ericka came up with a great idea with liquorice allsorts.  Never eaten them.  Course I am not wild about liquorice in the first place, so that may explain that.

Hmm....If you are like me, you may be thinking, "Looks like a psychedelic bumblebee with a pink honeycomb." so you might want to see the inspiration.

Now that you see it, does it make sense?

Now originally I was going to do mostly stripes, so I started with a white base on all but the middle finger.  Then I changed my mind and added some of the others.  The yellow is Ellagee Cadmium Glass, a gorgeous jellie.  The pink is Cult Nails Falling Hard with micro beads.

I covered it all with NYC Matte Magic, including the micro beads, just to take the shine off.

There it is.  What I started out dreading, I ended up liking.  Stripes are a little sloppy and I wish I wouldn't have put the yellow dot next to the white and black roll for esthetic purposes, but then I am never fully satisfied.

Don't forget to check out my twinsie at The Polished Fangirl to see her take on liquorice.

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want To Have Fun Skittles

Combo challenge today.  Nail Challenge Collaborative skittles and Never Ending Pile untried art supply.

My untried art supply is the nail wraps.  There was a packet of five random wrap samples in a Nails magazine last summer.

Artificial Light

I started with four coats of Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want To Have Fun.  I won this mini bottle along with some other beauty products in a giveaway.  It is only the second DL I own, but this one did not preform quite as well as the last.  It is a crelly, so it is a bit thin, but despite that, it wasn't a flooder.  Two coats would have been good if you don't mind VNL.  Three is good for full coverage.  I added a fourth for the DMPs.

I threw away the packaging for the wraps, so I couldn't tell you what brand they are.  I used only half of one on my thumb because it wasn't wide enough to cover my whole nail.  Gotta work with what you have, right?  Added some rhinestones, micro beads and a star sequin.

I had another wrap on the tip of my finger (the other half of the thumb wrap), but when I added top coat, it melted!  Didn't to that on the thumb!  Who knows.

NCC Skittles Nail Art

Today you get to see Bria's purdy nails!  It has been awhile since she has graced the blog.  I have just been doing what she wants and not worrying if it coordinates with a challenge.  She is graduating high school next week!  How did it sneak up on me?  She will be going to Focus Beyond next year, a continuing education program for special needs....ADULTS.  It seems so weird calling her an adult, but that is what she is!  She will always be my little girl!

This was another one for the Nail Challenge Collaborative's skittle theme.  For some reason we didn't get the pictures taken right away.  This is after about one weeks growth!  I wish my nails grew that quickly!

We used the following polishes:
  • Pinkie - OPI Planks A Lot
  • Ring - Orly Harmonious Mess
  • Middle - Essie Navigate Her
  • Index - Cult Nails New Day
  • Thumb - Barielle Pillow Talk
One last look before you see the other skittles!

Skittles, Skittles and More Skittles!

The prompt for today's Never Ending Pile challenge is "skittles".  How perfect that it coincides with The Nail Challenge Collaborative's theme.  So today is a twofer.

This started with the polish on my ring finger, Milani Sugar Rim, a clear polish filled with micro matte glitters in turquoises, bronze, brown and red.  Here I used three coats for full coverage.  It went on smoothly with good coverage, except at the tip.  I just daubed some on the tips to complete the coverage.

I then chose polish that matched the glitter.
  • Index is Milani Chocolate Sprinkles.
  • Middle is Julep Kai, one of their Sea Salt Finishes.  It has a sparse texture, but is a gorgeous color.  You can currently find it on the Julep site for just $2.99!  I dotted with Milani Chocolate Sprinkles and Essie Good As Gold.
  • Ring is Milani Sugar Rim.
  • Pinkie is Loreal Good As Gold.
  • Thumb is Julep Bess.

Next I stamped my thumb with PUEEN06/Mentality Foxy and BM-412/Essie Good As Gold.

Out of my comfort zone?  Yes.  Do I like it?  Yes!

And it all started with Sugar Rim!  Thanks for looking and commenting!  Check the skittles done by all the other lovely ladies!

Half Way Through the Month and My First NCC

Today's post is for the May Nail Challenge Collaborative prompt, skittles.  I asked my hubby what color I should work with this time, as I was feeling like I always pick the same colors.  He searched through my pinks for what he called "Bazooka Pink".  These are the colors he picked.

I have said this before....skittles go agains my sense of order.  I have found the key is to keep at least one thing the same or similar across all five tips  In this case, it is the colors and accents.

With Flash
Artificial Light

This is three coats of the poorly named Essie Forget Me Not.  Forget me nots are blue not pink!  Good bubble gum pink though!  Although this applied smoothly, it was a bit thin and a cuticle flooder.  This is one from a mystery package from No More Rack.

Next I created a skittle with striping tape and some lovely pearls from Born Pretty sent to me for review.

I love these baby pearls!  You can find them HERE at the Born Pretty Store.  They are 1.5mm, the perfect size for some detailed embellishment.  The convenient wheel holds an abundance with a good selection of colors.  They are flat plastic pearls with a pearl finish on the top only.  I only mention this as I ran across a few that had the pearl finish on the bottom and not on the top.  Other than this, they are well made, no rough edges or little pieces of plastic jutting out like I have found on some of these plastic half pearls from other manufacturers.  It is a good thing too since I usually just file them off, but these babies are too small for that kind of manipulation.  Don't forget to use the code at the end of this post for 10% off your order.

Just a quick note, the wheel and the pearls are plastic and the friction created during shipping creates a lot of static electricity.  When I received my wheel, there was so much static electricity in the wheel that when I slid the first section open, several pearls jumped right out of their little beds!  In order to make them less static, and therefore easier to manipulate, just huff a breath or two into the wheel.  The moisture from your breath will reduce the static.  You may have to do this for each section as you open it.  I learned this little trick from working with seed beads in jewelry making.

After creating different designs with striping tape, I added two coats of China Glaze Unrefined, a matte textured bubble gum pink, and peeled the tape off.  I probably let Unrefined dry a bit longer than necessary before removing the tape, but I love how it ended up looking like frosting!

On my ring finger I stamped with Vivid Lacquer VL 009 and Konad Special White and filled the hearts with more Unrefined.

Finally I added the pearls with top coat.  Once again, I used embellishments on a mani I did not want to top coat, so the pearls look a little messy because of the top coat on the dotting tool I used to place the pearls.  (How's that for a run on sentence?)  The pearl finish on these is very smooth and would look smooth under a layer of top coat.

Here is a close up of my favorite tip.

So girly!  Seems I have been breaking out of my dark, vampy manis more and more lately!  Don't worry, I will never go fully to the girly side!  I am too much of a geek for that!

Here is my code, if you want to use it!  If enough people do, they will sponsor a giveaway for us!  Don't forget to check out the other skittles from the lovely ladies at The Nail Challenge Collaborative!
