Snake Nail Art

I'm sick, but have to post for this months twinsie.  The prompt is reptiles.  We went with snakes.  Was going to be more complicated, but like I said, I'm sick, so I grabbed an unposted that fit.  Sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.  Once again, my twinsie is Erika of The Polished Fangirl.  Check out what she came up with!

Simple, but very snake like.

I started with two coats of Sinful Colors Strapped, a teal matte.  This one is a cuticle flooder, so careful application was required.  Not my favorite matte, just a bit too chalkie.

I stamped with Apipila P.1 and Revlon Captivate.  I would show you the plate, but that would mean opening photo shop and editing, and I have no energy for that.

Sorry for the quick post.  I will be going back to bed...or the bathroom.  See you next time...oh and don't forget to check out Erika's post HERE.

Finger Food Rainbow and AIS Tiger = Obsession

I have an image of myself.  I am romantic, but not cutsie.  Dark, but not morbid.  Alternative, not disco.   I am "Supernatural", not "Keeping Up With The Kardashians".  Hayley Williams, not Beyonce.  "Seven Psychopaths", not "The Hangover".   "Amelie", not "Titanic".  I am artsy, not crafty.  I am a little off...but in a good way.    My animal totem would be a wolf, a bit of a loner, but part of the pack and maybe a little misunderstood.  But I am more vampire than werewolf.  My blog will never be stark, but it might be a bit minimalist.  I am not animal print, I am lace.  Fall, not summer.  I am oxblood, not neon.  So then why the hell do I love these so much?!?  What does this say about me?!?!

Every time I glanced down at these, it made me smile, grin and skip.  Maybe because it brings me back to my childhood with its Lisa Frank-ish feel.

Don't let the pictures fool you, these are neon, bright and obnoxious.  A gradient of China Glaze Loves a Beach, Celtic Sun and Splish Splash could do nothing other than scream "LOOK AT ME!"  That is bad enough, but I took it a step farther.

I added tiger stripes.  This is just unnatural.  Why does it make my heart happy?!?

What caused this adorable abomination?  Finger Food Buffet rainbow prompt combined with Adventures in Stamping International Tiger Day.

My eyes!  But I can't stop looking!  I want to show random people on the street!  What is wrong with me!  Maybe my view of myself is totally wrong!  Who knew a bit of nail art could cause such self questioning.  Running to remove it before I start questioning my whole existence.  Gotta go.

#OMD2 Outdoor Nail Fail

Before I show you anything, I want to state that I am not happy with this.  However, I wanted to show you because I got some good images of how I do gradients.

There are so many things wrong with this, the first being that the background is too dark.  But this is what I really want to show you.

Look at this mess!  But I have a surefire way to clean this up.  See that white stuff at the edges?  That is masking fluid.

Masking fluid is a bit like PVA glue...except it is much better.  I apply it with an old small paint brush.  It dries wicked fast.  It is very strong, so it is easy to remove.  Often I can pull the whole piece off in one fell swoop.

And here is the result of removal.  I did absolutely no clean up here, just pulled the masking fluid off.  LOVE it!  Just a couple of suggestions though.  First, it is impossible to remove whatever brush you use, so keep this in mind.  I just use the same brush every time.  Second, you have to be careful not to touch you fingers together, as the masking fluid sticks to itself like....something really sticky.  It dries fast enough that you can probably do one nail at a time if you want to, but I kinda like sticking my fingers together to aid in removal.

And here is the nail art.  I tried stamping with grey first, and didn't like the results, so I went back over with black.  Just not happy with the whole thing.  Oh well, can't succeed every time!

Thanks for looking and commenting!  Oh, and you can find the other "outdoorsie" nail art HERE.

#OMD2 Roses

I am just hopping in and out of challenges all over the place.  This one is Oh Mon Dieu Part Deux Challenge.  This is a world wide challenge with prizes!  Now I have jumped in at the very end of the challenge, so I have some catching up to do.  However, not all of my nail art will be posted here, It will be on my Instagram account.  Why?  Because blog posts take so much more time and effort than Instagram.  Do you follow me on Instagram.  If not, click on any of the many links in this post to jump to my account, that way you can see all the manis.  Want more info?  Look HERE.  But don't spend too much time away, because I have some lovely nail art for you!

Simple, but lovely, don't you think?

With Flash
Atrificial Light

I started with two coats of Loreal Gel-Lacque Elegance Is Innate.  Can I just say I LOVE this.  Sure I have other dark dusty blues like this, but they are nothing like this!  This is two coats WITH NO TOP COAT!  Soooo shiny!  You can see from the bottle that this is a step two of a three part system, I just used my go to base, OPI Nail Envy Matte.  After this pic, I used my go to top coat, Seche Vite.  Although I do not have a pic of it, I wore this by itself for three days before stamping with NO TIP WEAR!  I have tried other "gel" polishes, but this Loreal is the best that I have tried!  Do I need to use any more exclamation marks?!?!  If you have these in your area, run out and get some now!  They don't have a very large color selection at this point, but hopefully they expand it.

Next I stamped with Mo You Mother Nature 05 and Sally Hansen Color Foil Leaden Lilac.

A word about stamping with the color foils.  My squishy stamper didn't work well.  The Konad stamper worked great, as long as you worked fast, which makes this image perfect as it is random and it doesn't need to be perfectly lined up.

Yup, another one that I love!  This image will definitely be used again.  Check out the rest of the roses HERE!

#31Nails2014 the 80's

Hold on to your parachute pants, I have 80's inspired nail art today and it is going to be very pic heavy!  This is for Nail Magazine 31 Nails.

The 31 Day Challenge is favorite decade.  The late 80's, early 90's were some of my best.  College and meeting my husband, losing myself and then discovering myself again.  The losing was almost as good as the discovering :)

I would like to claim that this is all me, but I was inspired by this image.  Always looking for inspiration, right?  This has been on a Pin board for some time and it seemed the perfect time to pull it out!

I started with two coats of China Glaze Stone Cold and used stripping tape to create, um, stripes.

I dotted the cuticles with China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard (green) and Love's a Beach (pink), then stamped at the cuticles.

Then I randomly stamped with the same colors and images from BM05, BM-003, BM-014 and MoYou 67.

Here it is with no top coat.  The neon is matte, which matches with Stone Cold.  Love it!

And here it is with top coat.  It makes the stamping a bit more sparkly.

Lot's of flash pics because the stamping just shows up better.

I feel like I am getting better with the whole random thing.  What do you think?

I have to say that I am getting better with stripping tape, but I have a recommendation....

Don't attempt this at 1:00 am if you are a perfectionist like me.  I swear I was about to...well swear at the tape.  Not going straight, then not sticking if it was straight.  I think it took me an hour to complete the stripes alone!

Of course my thumb is my favorite.  Love that little skull!  Thanks for looking and commenting!

#31Nails2014

Another day, another mani.  Today is for Nails Magazine again.  This time it is Disney.

Nothing like a little Mickey french tips.  The base looks a little...mottled?...because I put my french tip guides on too soon and messed up the base a bit.

With Flash
Artificial Light

I started with three coats of Julep Jennifer.  See, nice and smooth.  Then I added the guides and messed it all up.  Oh well.

After some white tips, I added red and yellow stripes.

Then I added some stamping decals with SH219.

Like the idea of this, just not my execution.  Thanks for looking and commenting!

#31Nails2014 Favorite Song

Favorite song?  Seriously?  That is like trying to pick a favorite movie or a favorite child.  Sorry, can't be done, love them all for different reasons.  Well maybe not all.  I have seen some horrid movies and heard some crappy songs.  But I digress.  I decided just to go for music in general.

Kinda love this!

With Flash
Artificial Light

I started with two coats of Finger Paints Sea Temptress.  I have seen some nasty things said about this.  I can honestly tell you that this is one of those polishes that DOES NOT benefit from macro shots.  In real life, though, it is beautiful!  It is iridescent with a green shimmer.  It truly looks like mother of pearl, which is why I chose it.  The buttons on a clarinet, the pic guard on a guitar, saxophones banjos tuning keys and Egyptian Oud.  Musical instruments and mother of pearl just go together in my mind.

I stamped with random parts of PUEEN 62, PUEEN 67 and Finger Paints Black Expressionism.

I top coated with Seche Vite and it looked even more like mother of pearl.

Do I like it?  Just ask the mood stone!

In this pic you can get an idea of the iridescence of Sea Temptress.  It is so much stronger in real life!  It really looks like the inside of a shell.  Love it!  And even in the DMPs, it looks better top coated.
