An Odd Love Story

The theme this week for Llama Nail Inspired By Movies/Books challenge is romance.  Although I love books and used to read a lot, movies are what stick in my memory.  Maybe it is because I have read so many books.  Endless hours during the summer when I was young.  My favorite place was the used book store my father would take me to.  It was filled with thousands of books crammed into a little store front full of hand built book shelves.  My genre of choice was sci-fi/fantasy and I devoured them.  But I digress.  Let me show you my romance nail art.

I can here the wheel turning!  How can this be inspired by a romance?  Well, I will get to that in just a moment.  First, let's talk about movies.  My love of books is often overshadowed by my love of movies.  The only job I have had that felt like a total fit for me was when I worked at a music/video store.  I would work the late shift, come home with a couple movies and stay up until the wee hours of the morning in front of the TV.  I felt it was part of my job to be able to tell my customers what was worth watching.  How perfect is that?

Although I have a large DVD collection, there just aren't many romances in it.  Romance movies are like cotton candy, sweet in small doses, but sickly if you get too much.  There are a few, though, that meet my strict requirements.  It must be intelligently funny.  It must not be too sappy, although that doesn't mean that it cannot make me cry.  Quirkiness is a must too.  Want a list?  Let me know in the comments and I would be happy to provide one :)  It is pretty short.  This manicure, is based on one that I could watch again and again, Always.  That's the name "Always".

Yep, it is an old movie, but a classic in my book.  If you haven't seen it, hunt it down.  You won't regret it.  So why the fire?  Because the characters are aerial firefighters.  A lot of words to explain a simple inspiration :).

I started with two coats of Mentality Scoundrel.  Although you can't see it, I sponged the tips with Maybelline Ageless Olive to give the impression of smoke.  I probably should have sponged over the trees, but I don't care, I love it anyways.

I stamped with Messy Mansion MM19 and Wet & Wild French White Creme because I wanted a translucent white.  Then I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening, Rapid Red and Barielle Hawaiian Sunset to make a stamping gradient with Vivid Lacquer VL 016.

Being the perfectionist that I am, I see the imperfections.  The stamping on my middle finger isn't high enough.  I should have put the smoke over the trees instead of behind them.

I don't care!  This makes me happy for some reason.  Maybe I was a pyromaniac in a past life :)  As always, the mood stone says it all and is very appropriate for this theme.

Let me know what your favorite romantic movie is!  Have you seen Always?  Does it make your "Top 10 romances" list?  Thanks for looking and commenting and don't forget to check out the lovely nail art below.
