#31DC2014 Blue Doctor Who

August 23 was the season premiere of one of my favorite shows, Doctor Who.  Bria and I had spent the end of July and all of August binge-watching EVERY SINGLE ONE of the new series episodes (eight seasons worth!).  Going through three Doctors in the new episodes (technically 5 if you include John Hurt and Tom Baker's cameo) and several others in the old ones does not make regeneration any easier.  We (Bria, my sister, brother-in-law and I) chose to see this new Doctor on the big screen.  Yes, we paid money to go see in the theater something that we could have watched for free (well, not really) at home.  This, of course, called for some special nail art.  You will get to see Bria's later on in this challenge, but I have mine for the #31DC2014 blue prompt today.  What could be more appropriate, huh?

If you watch the series, you may know what this is....then again, you may not :)

Pahlish Mad Man with a Box with flash
Pahlish Mad Man with a Box in artificial light

This is three coats of Palish Mad Man with a Box.  I could have definitely used only two, but you know how I am with depth of glitter and flakies...two is never enough!  This is a gorgeous polish.  Dark blue jelly filled with blue glass flecks and gold flakies?  YES PLEASE!  However, I found this to be a HUGE stainer, even with my usual one coat of base coat.  The description on the website (HERE) does say that it may stain but has been changed since its original release and less likely to stain.  If I remember correctly, I purchased this right after it's release, so I may have the original formula.  Do I care?  Not really.  I have a trick to removing this kind of staining.  I put my Sally Hansen Cuticle Remover over the entire nail, let it sit for a bit and then scrape it off with an orange stick.  It soaks most of the staining into the gel and makes removal, even from cuticles, a breeze.  It only works if you use it right after removal though.  I also cannot attest as to whether this method would work if you wear a stainer for more than three or four days, since my polish is never on my tips longer than that!

Next I used OPI My Vampire Is Buff, OPI Over the Moon and Revlon Perfect Pearl to create a very sloppy crack in the universe.  You Whovians know what I mean!

I finally made a stamping decal with MJ XII and Mentality Tough.  I have to be honest, I purchased this plate for this image.  Usually if I purchase a plate, I have to see my self using at least 2/3rds of the images.  There are a few others here that I like, however, the rest of the plate could have been filled with dog poo and I still would have purchased it just for Sexy here!

I wish I was an actual painter so I could have recreated the crack better, but I still love it!  And I actually think I am going to love the new Doctor too!  At first I thought he was trying too much to act like Matt Smith, but he seems to have settled into his own role in the second episode.  Can't wait to see where he leads us!

Thanks for looking and commenting!  See you tomorrow!

  2. Love this so much! I might also be guilty of purchasing a plate just because of one single image on it! If you are obsessed about something, all bets are off :)
